Photoshop?!!!!?

ok so i've been seeing theses kinds of pictures all over myspace.

people make their picture black%26white.

%26 then they have like one spot of color, it looks really cool, but how do you do that? i think you have to do it on photoshop but i'm not sure. like they had a picture that was totally gray, but then in the backrould there was a spot of color from the original pic. i really wanna no how to do that, please give me clear step by step direction on how to please!

Yup, they're quite easy to do on photoshop. There are a number of ways of doing it.

1. Using the quick mask.

Mask the area you want to color, once done, get out of quick mask mode, and you'll get a selected section. It depends on how you set the mask, sometimes you might have to invert the selection. Anyway, after that you just go de-saturate (Image %26gt; Adjust %26gt; Desaturate) on the rest of the picture. This method can also be used to change the colour of your selected object, by adjusting color balance.

2. Using the replace color tool

Go to Image %26gt; Adjust %26gt; Replace color to select the area you want to apply the color change to

3. Using pen tool

Use the pen tool to trace the area you want to keep. Once done, load path as selection, then invert the selection before you make any changes to the color (same method to the 1st one - using desaturation).

I found the easiest method was using the quick mask if the area you want colored is simple, but if it's more complicated then I'd use pen tool. Method #2 is very easy, BUT can only work on certain pictures. There maybe some other ways of doing it.... who knows... but these are the methods of how I'd do it.

I hope these make sense. Good luck.
